Firewalking
"Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire."
Pierre Tielhard de Chardin
Rev. Pamela Chamberlynn, M.S.W. is a Certified Firewalk Instructor through the Firewalk Institute for Research and Enlightenment (F.I.R.E.) Pamela credits Cherokee Medicine Woman, Rev. Edwene Gaines, with teaching her how to share the beauty and sacredness of the firewalking ritual with love and integrity.
In Native American tradition, fire is the element of unconditional love. Firewalking, as practiced and taught by Pamela, is a ritual in ecstatic Love and Oneness and awakening. It is a profoundly healing and empowering experience.
Firewalking has been practiced throughout recorded human history in every culture. There has been a resurgence in firewalking in modern society. Different teachers teach firewalking and fire immunity in amazingly different ways and for different purposes.
Pamela shares firewalking for these purposes:
There is no trick to firewalking - no secret. Plain and simple - It can't be done. This is not some cool body-mind thing. Scientists have studied it and measured it and even tried it themselves - and it can't be done.
And yet is IS done. Over and over again. By thousands of people all around the world.
No, you cannot just build a fire and walk across it. A fellow was brought into the emergency room one night after "firewalking" and burning his feet to crisps. When queried by the nurses he said he had seen firewalking on TV, thought it was cool, built a fire in his back yard, had a beer, and walked across the fire. No, the beer wasn't his problem.
Firewalking, done with a trained professional, with a very clear intention and purpose, is one of the most beautiful and joyous things I've ever done. It is a transcendent experience that has added greatly to my spiritual journey. It's definitely not for everybody and I don't think it will ever mainstream.
Firewalking is also incredibly simple and easy when you are in the correct setting with the proper teacher and support system (that would not include a bottle of beer)
In Native American tradition there are four elements of fire, earth, air and water. Air is the mental realm, our thoughts and minds. Water is our emotional, feeling nature. The earth is obviously our physical bodies and our physical experiences. Fire is pure Spirit, Source Energy, unconditional Love. Fire is our spiritual nature, our Oneness, our interconnectedness with all life. Isn't it interesting that human beings have turned the element that represents unconditional love into something that hurts and can even destroy life? That might really be something to give some thought to.
You'll know in your heart if firewalking is a ritual that draws you.
"Decide to live your dreams before you can see the means. You can feed attention to your obstacles or you can feed attention to your desire. One gives you magnified obstacles. The other gives you fire."
~ Tama Kieves
