"Awareness of the moment is
when change can occur."

Many people are looking for simple meditation instruction.  Mindfulness originates in Buddhism but mindfulness meditation is a practice that can complement any spiritual practices or religious beliefs.  Jon Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction program was featured on Public television in the Bill Moyers special on Healing and the Mind.  Recently Mindfulness meditation was very positively and accurately presented in prime time on the ABC nightly news!

The ABC segment showed brain scans that demonstrate that mindfulness meditation actually grows the parts of the brain that correspond to self-awareness and compassion while shrinking the part of the brain that corresponds to stress.  Mindfulness meditation and other forms of meditation have been extensively researched and are rapidly mainstreaming in health care settings and corporate America.  Mindfulness meditation is increasingly being introduced in the school system with young children with excellent results.

Principles of Mindfulness:

• Mindfulness is deliberately paying attention, non-judgmentally
• Mindfulness encompasses both internal processes and external environments.
• Mindfulness is being aware of what is present for you mentally, emotionally and physically in each moment.
• With practice, mindfulness cultivates the possibility of freeing yourself of reactive, habitual patterns of thinking, feeling and acting
• Mindfulness promotes balance, choice, wisdom and acceptance of what is.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction has shown consistent and impressive results across a broad spectrum of health conditions, including heart disease and cancer.  Our health is very impacted by stress and our modern lives are full of constant stresses.
